About Our Brushes
Green Jade Japanese Art offers a selection of fine brushes, most of which have been developed primarily for various styles of brush calligraphy, painting, and sumi-e.
Sumi-e brushes are composed of two separate parts. The central core, which determines the height and basic function of the brush, is made of relatively stiff hairs gathered to form a tapered point. The outer wrapping consists of softer hairs which are selected for their greater water-holding capacity and for facilitating smooth strokes.
The hairs of the inner core and of the outer wrapping are the same length and come to a point when dipped into water. The hair structure ensures smooth maneuverability and dynamic strokes whether light or heavy pressure is applied.

Brush Care
Always soak a new brush's tip (and only the tip!) in clean water to remove the sizing before use, about 3-5 minutes will do.
Clean your brush after every use with cold clean water. Never use soap!
Dry with the tip pointing down. We recommend a using a clothes pin if there's no hanging loop at the end of the brush.
